When a property is foreclosed by the county for nonpayment of taxes, it is sold at auction to recoup the tax amount. When the buyer pays more for the property than the taxes owed, the difference is called an overage. This overage rightfully belongs to the former property owner.

Finally, all of this must be completed on a timely basis, or the full amount of your overage reverts to the state government.
